ERSCA Electric Vehicle Operations Training
Available as a 1-day, in-person training program
Electric Vehicle (EV) Safety & Towing Operations Training
The ERSCA Electric Vehicle (EV) Operations Training is an 8-hour course designed to provide towing and recovery professionals with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely interact with transport and recover Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). This program combines classroom instruction with hands-on practical training to ensure participants understand the unique hazards, operational considerations, and safety procedures associated with electric vehicle incidents.
The primary focus of the training is operator safety during basic towing, roadside service, and recovery operations involving electric and hybrid vehicles. Participants will learn industry-recognized practices for identifying vehicle types, assessing hazards, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and implementing safe work procedures when operating around high-voltage systems.
Topics of instruction include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Emergency Response Guides (ERG), applicable ISO standards, vehicle identification, vehicle interaction protocols, stabilization techniques, securement procedures, weight distribution considerations affecting towing and transportation, and proper towing, recovery, rigging, and attachment methods. Participants will also gain an understanding of emergency response considerations and risk mitigation strategies when working with damaged or compromised electric vehicles.
Training is delivered through a combination of classroom and practical field exercises, allowing participants to apply learned concepts in realistic operational scenarios. This course reflects current industry standards, manufacturer recommendations, federal, state, and local regulations, and recognized safety practices for electric vehicle operations.
ERSCA Electric Vehicle Operations Training may be utilized as continuing education following successful completion of the Essentials of Standard Duty Towing & Recovery course. Upon completion, participants will be better prepared to safely and professionally respond to the growing number of electric and hybrid vehicles encountered in today's towing and recovery industry.
